The Artwork of Tzporah Breitman Lee, 1918-2008
Hindishe Lee will showcase the exquisite artwork of her mother, Tzporah Breitman Lee. A multitalented artist, Tzporah possessed a fluid painting style, vibrant with color, yet imbued with calm sensitivity. In addition to painting, Tzporah created terra cotta sculptures and composed music. Her studio in Manhattan became the scene of professional gatherings—fellow artists, musicians, and writers.
Hindishe created a website (tzporah-breitman-lee-a-h-1918-2008.webador.com, Hallie Cantor, ed.) highlighting her mother’s work and "resurrected" her mother's black and white "Soul Sketches" via colorization techniques, in an attempt to realize the majesty that Tziporah might have intended to capture on canvas. This event will focus on a specific period in her work.
Join Hindishe and her “guided tour” of some of the nearly 100 sketches, incorporating themes from religion, field workers, motherhood, exotic lands and cultures--and even clowns.
Reference Librarian at Hedi Steinberg Library, Stern College, Hindishe is also a bit of an artist herself – designing library PR materials and creating simcha cards. She earned a BA in Math from SCW, a BS in education from Torah Institute for Women, and an MLS from Columbia University.
